2. Robert B. Parker

Double Play Half an early incarnation of a tougher Spenser bodyguard for Jackie Robinson and half Parker's reminiscence of baseball. Not bad but a little derivative.
3. Greg Bear

Darwin's Radio & Darwin's Children How viruses cause a mutation that advances the human race and the xenophic reaction. The second book is even better than the first as Stella Nova grows up.
4. Anne McCaffrey & M. Ball

Acorna The first book in the series about the "unicorn girl". An interesting story but the saving an entire planet of slave children is a little unrealistic.
5. Anne Rice

Blackwood Farm Tarquin, Lestat, the Mayfairs (including lovely Mona), Petronia and Merrick. A long story short on actual plot ending with Merrick's death and Mona's "death into Vampirism.
6. Thomas Gallagher

Paddy's Lament The subtitle to this book is "Prelude to Hatred" - the description of the British attempted pogrom on the Irish using the potato famine as a tool - tells you why.

The Postman A very interesting book. It would not have made a good movies but the movies would not have made a good book. Much more satisfying than the movie. I recommend it.

Eyes Open Not as good as the first but still has 6 very good tunes.

Sharpe's Sword Very well written. A woman a spy and a battle - Wonderful Sharpe action.

Transatlanticism An obvious reference to Brit rock and they are right up there although the disc is a little too dreamy - needs an edge.

The Lying Stones of Marrakech More of his short but intelligent articles about the world, evolution and the scientists that resolve them.

Employment Leeds art rockers with some very catchy tunes and strong music.
